Armor
The main function of the scales are to protect the dragon's soft skin tissue. An adult dragon is said to be able to take a direct blow from a sword and hardly even flinch.
Adult dragons have scales that are four to six inches wide and seven to nine inches long that are shaped similar to a teardrop. The pattern of these scales is a flat rotating
design that causes them to overlap each other. However, the dragons are fairly felxible due to a unique depression on the top side of each scale that will allow them to lay evenly
flat on the body.
The scales on the chest are said to be the largest; over a foot wide. The pattern of the chest scales are one to three flat "scale flaps". The scales on the chest are shaped differently
than those on the rest of the body, they are more squarish. The pattern of the chest is overlapping and flat running from the throat, under the body, and extending the length of the tail. All scales
on a dragon lightly slide over each other, when it walks it will make a soft scraping sound. The overlaying scales make it very difficult for anything to injure one of these monstrous beasts. The dragon
can make its scales stand on end for washing. It can also puff up and spread its scales out to make it look larger and more intimidating. Lifting the scales will reduce the intake of heat and allows the
skin underneath to release te heat already in its body. This cools the dragon down quickly, kind of like a biological air conditioner. The dragon will also stand its scales on end when walking into a pool
of water so that it can ease the pain and soothe it as it relaxes.
