In certain breeds of dragons, the scales are able to change color when they are mature. This results in a chameleon-like effect. This is due to the chromatophoreor pigment cells
in the scales. The scales will change color under two different circumsatnces; they are during extreme emotional anxiety or by force of will of the dragon. If the dragon in question
is angered, the scales change to a bright, fierce looking red color. This causes them to look more intimidating or draws the attention of female dragons during mating rituals. A dragon
can even flow ceratin color patterns across its body to attract certain types of fellow dragons. Due to their supreme understanding of the world and their unmatched intelligence, they can
change color to match that of their surroundings exactly. This includes things as small as shadows and highlights in the direct vicinity. In fact, they are so good at this that most
living creatures will walk right past a dragon, not even 10 feet away, and not even realized that they did.
