|
Marduk is the Supreme God in Babylonian Religion. He was originally god of all thunderstorms, controlling the elements. In Enuma elish, a epic poem about creation, he defeats Tiamat and Kingu, the
dragons of chaos. By performing this great feat, he gained ultimate power. He was known as the creator of the universe and of humankind, the god of light and life, and the ruler of destinies. He rose to such eminence that he claimed
fifty different titles. Eventually he was known as Bel, meaning "Lord" (also spelled Baal or Bhaal).
