Wyvern

Physiology

This is a serpent-like dragon with a pair of wings, two legs (some are known to have four), a poisonous tail like a scorpion, and poisonous breath. The wyvern sometimes has claws on the tips of it's wings, acting like a second pair of "hands".

History

The Wyvern originates from Europe, though it's history is mixed with that of the Western dragon. Therefore, it has no history of it's own. This creature has been depicted as heraldry on shields and banners for hundreds of years. It is then considered a sign of strength to the beholder. The Wyven commonly represents famine, pestilence, and plague. The most famous of this dragon-type is Vermithrax in the movie Dragon Slayer.
